Danish Management Society was established on 3 May 1965 by a group of leading Danish executives, the only 'VL Group' at that time and now called VL Group 1. Today, there are 104 Groups and 10 Groups under establishment. The Society is the umbrella organization for the VL Groups with a membership of more than 3000 top executives.

Members of a 'VL Group' are top executives, board members or other high-echelon staff members, including from the professions and the public sector. A person can only join a 'VL group' if he or she also belongs to the Danish Management Society.

Each Group holds 8-10 informal meetings a year to discuss management-related issues.

Apart from the Annual General Meeting and members meeting, the Annual Danish Top Executive Summit is a recurring event. It is arranged as a 24-hour conference (from 1pm to 1pm the next day), during which some 500-600 members representing all groups get together to hear lectures given by international top executives and debates involving the latest hotspot management themes.
